Join us at the Cathedral Domain Camp in Irvine on August 27th for a family reunion style celebration of KFTC's work over the last 30 years. Meet former KFTC chairpeople and staff members and hear reflections from the early years of KFTC.  We have a full day of fun activities planned, including music, storytelling, group hike, square dancing, and much more.

If you are planning on attending, please register using the form below. This will help us have a good headcount to plan for dinner. We are asking that people who wish to attend make a donation to help cover the cost of food.  After filling out the form below, please visit our online membership donation page.  Suggested donations per person are $10, $30, $75, $150, or whatever you can give. No one will be turned away if they cannot afford to pay.

Below is a schedule of our  30th Birthday Celebration. We welcome everyone to join us starting at 12:00 noon. After checking in at registration, feel free to enjoy any of the multitude of outdoor and indoor activities available to you. Cathedral Domain hosts lovely ground which include hiking trails, swimming pool, frisbee golf court, volleyball court and many more. There will also children's crafts, music all day, quilt making, storytelling, and a whole myriad of KFTC displays to check out.  We ask that you have a wonderful time, make new friends, see old friends, and celebrate our amazing community, 30 years in the making.

 

Let’s Celebrate & Have a Good Time!  

Following is some additional information about the day including program details, suggestions on what to bring, and information on childcare and meals.

Our goal is for everyone to celebrate the good work of KFTC over the last 30 years, visit with friends and family, and have fun!  If you have questions or concerns, please contact Heather or Brittany at 859-276-0563.


A Fun Filled Day:

There will be lots of activities from 12 noon through 10 pm.  Come when you can and leave when you’re tired but just be sure to have fun.


12 pm – 4 pm  TONS OF ACTIVITIES


Create a Quilt Block: 12 pm to 3:45 pm. Create your piece of history! Come make a block for a KFTC 30th anniversary quilt to be auctioned at the Annual Meeting in October.


Kid's Crafts: 12 pm to 3:45 pm.  

Swimming: 12 pm to 3:45 pm.  Bring your swimsuit and a towel!

Group Hike to Wind Tunnel: 2 pm to 3:45 pm.  

Storytelling Circles (All Circles will be followed by a 15 minute Q&A):

1:00-1:30 In the beginning: Come hear stories about KFTC's early days, when members learned about community organizing and started to work together to win one of our hallmark victories, the broad form deed. 

2:00-2:30 Along the Way: KFTC members have accomplished a lot together! Come hear members tell some stories–stories that many of us share–about their work for a more just Kentucky, and what we're all learning along the way.

3:00-3:30 The Next 30 Years:  What's your vision for KFTC's next thirty years, as we continue to build new power in Kentucky? Come hear some leaders share their thoughts, then join the discussion yourself.  

 

Games:  All day long, there’ll be access to on-site courts and games such as volleyball, foursquare, tetherball, Frisbee golf, bocci ball, corn hole, and soccer.  Grabs some friends and start a game!

Self-Guided Hikes:  There’s the group hike mentioned above but if you’re interested in exploring other trails, Cathedral Domain has several to offer.

  • Bat Cave: A 2 hour hike out and back to see a bat cave.  You should bring a flashlight!
  • Patterson and Wolf Pen Trails: 1.5 hours out and back with a little climbing involved. 
  • Wind Tunnel: An easy 45 minute trail. There will be an organized group hike for this trail at 2 pm.

Music:  There will be great music all day long!

 

Hanging with friends and family:  There’s lots of room on porches and in the fields to just hang out with old and new friends.  Gather round and catch up on what’s been going on around the state!

All Day Displays:  We can’t celebrate KFTC’s history without sharing some of that history!  We’ll have a number of interesting displays that share KFTC’s 30 year history, highlight the incredible work of chapters, and show the timeline of our work over the years.


4 pm FORMAL PROGRAM IN THE CATHEDRAL


We’ll gather up for a formal program that will celebrate KFTC’s 30 years of action for justice.  During the program, we’ll premier our 30th anniversary video!  Childcare will be offered during the formal program.


5:30 pm – 7 pm   DINNER



Chow time!


7:00 pm – 8:00 pm   LIVE MUSIC



We’ll have some great music while we all gear up for some dancing!


8:00 pm – 10:00 pm   SQUARE DANCE


Join us for a foot-stompin’ good time as we close out the evening!

What to Bring:

  • Water bottle (we’ll have water stations around campus)
  • Other drinks or snacks you might want.  (Remember: we’re only serving dinner so be sure to eat lunch before you arrive or bring a picnic.)
  • Sunscreen; bug spray
  • Swimsuit & towel if you plan to use the swimming pool
  • Sports equipment or yard games (we’ll have some but feel free to bring your own)
  • Hiking shoes if you want to take advantage of one of the trails.  One trail leads to a cave which you’ll need a flashlight to explore.
  • Money for a special edition 30th anniversary t-shirt or poster!
  • Consider bringing your own silverware or dishes to save on waste

Bring your children, but not your pets!

This is definitely a family-friendly event.  There’s swimming, games, a playground, children’s crafts and more!

Please note that KFTC will only be providing childcare during the formal program.  This means we’ll have childcare from 3:30 – 5:30.  The rest of the day, childcare is not available.

And please note that the Cathedral Domain’s policy is that no pets are allowed. 

Lunch is On Your Own!

Our celebration is from 12 noon until 10 pm.  We’ll be serving a very delicious dinner at around 5:30 pm.

However, we won’t be serving lunch.  Please make plans to have lunch before you arrive or feel free to bring a picnic or snacks to the campus.  There are lots of beautiful spots to enjoy a lunch with friends and family!

Try to carpool

We encourage you to carpool.  Some chapters may be arranging vans or caravans.  For information on carpooling or other transportation options, please contact your local organizer or call our main office at 606-878-2161 and they can help connect you to the right person.
